Fire-stricken Town in California has got on alert

There is little time for escape under the dimly lighted skies, the flying ash, and the rapidly moving flames.

Judy Christenson, 63, recalls making a similar journey 40 decades back.

The most recent fire in California destroyed homes and other structures, forcing citizens of the small town 280 miles (451 kilometres) northeast of San Francisco to escape.

The day before, flames from the wood products manufacturer Roseburg Forest Products spread into Weed's Lincoln Heights.

Her 10-year relationship with her lover suddenly ended, her house was trashed, and her dog went missing.

Vogelsang's luck is far less good. She claimed that until she could get a lift to the evacuation centre, she slept on a bench in Weed.
